Chris Sheehan
Ecological Restoration Practitioner
Chris is a passionate ecological restoration practitioner; after moving to New Zealand in 2018, he was inspired by the abundance of native flora and fauna. This motivated him to change careers, and he now enjoys working across all areas of conservation. He completed the Kaitiaki Whenua/Trainee Ranger course at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology in 2022. Following this, he worked at the The Brook Waimārama Sanctuary in Nelson. His main role at the sanctuary was a Noxious Weed Control Ranger and he was also fortunate to be involved in several projects such as the preparation and release of the threatened Kākāriki karaka and Tuatara. He joined the team at Kawakawa Environmental in 2023 and enjoys the variation in his work, since joining he has worked on many projects including biodiversity monitoring, pest eradication, noxious weed control, the restoration of wetlands and various planting projects across the Kāpiti Coast and the Greater Wellington Region.
Growing up on the West Coast of Ireland, Chris has always had a strong connection with nature, he is particularly interested in the restoration of coastlines and wetlands. He finds fulfilment by being in nature and is passionate about working towards the restoration and conservation of fragile ecosystems within Aotearoa, in his spare time he enjoys tramping and road tripping around the county.
